Having been away from HQ for a couple of weeks I’m not sure how explosive Glasgow has been over the last wee while but I’m guessing tonight might see a few rockets in the sky. I have very mixed feelings about bonfire night. I loved it as a kid and a father of youngsters but also as a son of a firework wholesaler I owe Messrs Brock and Standard a debt of gratitude. However I also have pets and our late dog, Alfie, was utterly traumatised by the hideous bombs that went off at all times of day and night for weeks at this time of year, so I am now less than keen.
Either way common sense dictates that all the fizzes and bangs should be over by the time this week’s AC gets on the air. The real action tonight of course is elsewhere. It’s election day in the US and I for own would like a vote as I think we are all directly affected by the outcome and it will not surprise you to know that, like so many of you, I fear what happens next. I do hope our friends across the water will accept whatever outcome is agreed by the voters and we wish all of you peace in the week and months to come.
If neither of these events grabs your attention then we shall gladly supply two hours of country music in our own style for your joy and delight. We will mourn the passing of Quincy Jones as we celebrate a truly great country record he arranged. We’ll celebrate The Beatles’s own love of the capital of country music and we will tip our hap to Bob Dylan’s visit to Embra tonight and tomorrow. (the Michael Marra song of the same name is worth checking out too)
Those Fantastic cats…
We shall bring you news of Anthony D’Amato whose other band, Fantastic Cat have a unique holiday season tour coming up and are fresh from a triumphant Jersey Shoreline triumph. We will bring you music from the woman who took the recent Americana Week in Nashville by storm as we play you a beautiful track from Jobi Riccio. There is also new music from Red Sky July, Charlie Dore and the wonderful new Mindy Smith album. We’ll remind you that Chuck Prophet should be on your Christmas wish list and bring you more C2C teasers to whet your appetite for next year’s festival.
More, I hear you mutter…oh there will be so much more. For that you’ll need to join me live on BBC Sounds or BBC Radio scotland from 8 pm this Tuesday evening.
